Participation in Astronomical Week of Chile pavilion in Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan
At Chile Pavilion in Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan, various events are held every week based on a specific theme. In the week of May 19 to May 23, various astronomical events entitled "Infinite Innovation: Exploring the Limits of the Universe and Creativity" were held. Dr. Kohno, director of the Institute of Astronomy, the University of Tokyo, and Dr. Miyata, director of Atacama Observatory, the University of Tokyo, participated in this event. In the public lecture on May 22, there were also introductions of TAO project.
In the public lecture, there were 3 titles: The first one entitled "The History of Astronomy in Chile" introduced about astronomy in Chile, especially the history of observational astronomy using visible, infrared to radio waves which is currently active. The second one entitled "Astrophysics from Chile" explained clearly about the latest astronomical results from the various telescopes in Chile. The third one entitled "Innovation: Astronomical Instrumentation and Technology Transfer" introduced various telescope projects which is ongoing or planned. In the third lecture, TAO project was introduced as an important project connecting Chile and Japan. Unfortunately, there were not so many audience who stayed for the entire lecture, but visiting people of Chile pavilion stopped to see the photos of telescopes and images of galaxies.

On June 12, Director Kohno attended the seminar on Chilean ports and railways. There were lectures on topics such as the current status, future prospects and development of Chilean ports and railways by Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications of Chile, Jorge Daza, Port Development Unit Coordinator, David Medrano, and people from Chilean National Railway, Antofagasta Terminal International (ATI), and Antofagasta Port Company. In addition, Governor of Antofagasta Region, Ricardo Diaz gave a presentation introducing the characteristics and attractions of the region, in which he reported that the agreement on astronomy and space science between Antofagasta Region and the School of Science at the University of Tokyo had been signed. Next, Dr. Eduardo Unda, Director of CITEVA (Center for Research, Technology, Education and Astronomical Outreach) introduced observatories installed and operated in Chile, including TAO.
Antofagasta region which is known as one of the world's best locations for astronomical observation, has well-developed railway networks and port facilities supporting the logistics of mineral resources, and aims for development in both science and industry with the regional characteristics. That was the shared understanding in the seminar.
