*** Title: Herschel high-z sub-millimeter galaxies and gravitational lenses: H2O, a new diagnosis of their starburst [#wea7c393]
 Abstract:
 During the last 3 years we have been conducting a large spectroscopic
 survey of detached eclipsing binaries (DEBs) from the All-Sky
 Automated Survey (ASAS) catalog. With a number of telescopes,
 (including Subaru) we have gathered over 2500 high-resolution echelle
 spectra of about 250 bright, mostly southern DEBs. The spectra serve us 
 mainly to calculate radial velocities of various precision, down to
 single m/s, and also for tomography and atmospheric analysis. In the
 first stage of the survey, we observed all the targets without strict
 pre-selection criteria, in order to quickly calculate the basic
 stellar parameters like masses and radii of the components and
 evaluate the evolutionary stage. Later we've selected about 120 most
 interesting system - the "creme de la creme". This sample includes
 binaries of various, poorly studied classes like, low- and very high
 mass stars, low mass ratio pairs, pre-main-sequence, giants etc. We've
 also included a number of targets for which we are able to reach very
 high accuracy in radial velocities, that allows us to search for
 circumbinary planets and calculate stellar masses with precision of
 0.1% and better, competing with the precision so far possible only
 with binary pulsars. In the talk I will present the survey itself, as
 well as some interesting results, including sub-stellar companion
 candidates. I will also present the plan for the future, focusing on
 the near IR.

 Abstract: Herschel extragalactic wide surveys which have observed about 1000 deg2, 
 are discovering  hundreds of thousands of high-z dusty sub-millimetrer galaxies, 
 and hundreds of high-z sub-millimeter strongly lensed galaxies. Gravitational magnification 
 there allows a gain by an order of magnitude in sensitivity in studying sub-millimeter galaxies 
 at high redshift (z~1-5).  I will first summarize the main results of these submm surveys, 
 and the strategy for identifying, characterizing and following up these sources. I will mainly 
 highlight strongest lenses, highest redshift sources ( z~ 4-6) , and possible proto-clusters 
 detected by Planck and Herschel.
 
 The easy detection of H2O lines redshifted into millimetre atmospheric windows is a good illustration. 
 I will first evoke Herschel results on H2O emission in local Ultra-Luminous Infrared Galaxies 
 (ULIRGs, SFR > 100 Mo/yr). Then millimetre detections of H2O lines will be presented 
 in similar objects at high-z. Observing a dozen of strong lenses from the H-ATLAS survey 
 with IRAM interferometer, we have shown that H2O is easily detectable at all high redshifts. 
 We show that the J=2 H2O line luminosity increases as LIR1.1-1.2. H2O lines provide thus 
 an important diagnosis in extreme starburst and possibly AGN conditions of warm gas 
 of these galaxies, especially those with LIR ~10^13 Lo (SFR>1000 Mo/yr), which have 
 no local equivalents but are abundant at z ~ 2-4. The weaker emission obtained 
 from the first results of the extension of the observations at J=3 levels might indicate that 
 the J=2 emitting medium is more extended than the cores of local ULIRGs. However, 
 modelling H2O emission remains difficult since complex processes take place such as 
 IR radiation transfer, shocks, cosmic rays, AGN feedback and XDR chemistry, outflows, etc. 
 Finally, I will evoke the rich prospects with ALMA for various possible extensions of such studies.
