Abstract: Interstellar clouds host a chemically rich molecular inventory extending beyond simple carbon-bearing species to complex molecules such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), fullerenes, carbon chains, and graphite, which together constitute a major reservoir of interstellar carbon. The structural diversity, ubiquity, and highly similar infrared spectral features of PAHs lead to blended emission that often dominates infrared spectra, complicating the identification of exact molecular species. Moreover, infrared spectra alone are not always unique molecular identifiers, as different molecules can exhibit similar vibrational signatures even within the fingerprint region. Recent observations with the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) have provided high resolution spectra of several interstellar environments. Since, experimental spectra of PAHs are limited, computations play a very important role. In this talk I will emphasize the role of computations and will discuss some recent results. Apart from infrared, I will also present rotational spectra of some systems and discuss the limitations.
